Governor Cuomo just signed a bill into law which may or may not be a good thing depending on how you see government’s role in our lives.

The new bill requests and allows kids in school to be screened for obesity in conjunction with school health services. The state’s teacher’s union was behind this bill as a basic way to identify obesity and help families.

A parent commented to ABC News 10 of Albany, New York, regarding childhood obesity:

"Junk food is cheaper, parents go with the cheaper route sometimes, and kids end up suffering without knowing any better because they will eat whatever is put in front of them. I think it’s a good idea to have schools be a little bit better.

Many support this initiative, though I am imagining there are parents who feel this bill reaches too far into our lives and our homes, and that a student's weight is a personal issue between themselves, their parents and their MD.
