Cops:New Fairfield Man Stole $2,650 in Tools From Danbury Company

A New Fairfield man will have his day in court next week on charges accusing him of stealing over two thousand dollars worth of tools from Addessi Fencing back in early January.

After a month-long investigation, Danbury police arrested Stephen Matthew Rubino of New Fairfield, charging him with third-degree burglary, third-degree larceny, second-degree criminal trespass and conspiracy to commit burglary.

Police say the tools were stolen from a truck in the parking lot of Addessi Fencing on Starr Road back on January 9.

At the time of his arrest, police were also investigating a number of other commercial burglaries that were reported between December 28, 2019, and January 15 of this year.

According to newstimes.com, Police are reporting that surveillance video from Addessi Fencing showed a person of interest opening up the door of a truck in the parking lot of the business in the early morning hours of January 9.

Even though the person had his face covered in the video, police say someone wearing the same jacket was also captured on surveillance video at two different locations the same night as the Addessi Fencing heist.

That jacket, along with the discovery of a Dewalt Jobsite Radio in mid January, which was one of the items reported stolen from Addessi Fencing and was found by detectives under a shed on a property on Padanaram Road owned by one of Rubino's relatives, led them to make an arrest in the case.

To make matters even worse for Rubino, police say that he was on supervised parole after he was released from the State Department of Corrections back in August.

Police also say that according to court documents, Rubino has a criminal record a mile long. He was reportedly convicted on third degree burglary charges just last month for a 2018 Southbury incident, and also had a failure to appear charge that stemmed from a 2015 arrest.

Back in 2005, he accused Danbury Police of using unreasonable force in connection with an arrest following a robbery at Padanaram Road dry cleaner. The excessive force lawsuit filed, at the time, against two Danbury Police Officers, was dismissed in 2010 after the State Federal Court in Hartford found both officers not guilty.

After his latest arrest, Rubino is being held on $25,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in State Superior Court in Danbury on February 19.
