My Pick for Connecticut’s Best Corn 2024: Woodbury’s Logue Farms
I love corn on the cob, I stop at farm stands and local farmer's markets when it's in season. I bought fresh corn all over Connecticut this year: In Guilford, Hamden, Waterbury, Bantam, Salisbury, East Canaan, Torrington, Watertown, and finally, Woodbury. The best fresh corn that I had in all of 2024 was born and raised in Woodbury.
Here's a tip for fellow corn fans - Check with your local farms, most will offer a bushel of corn. what can you do with 40-60 pounds of corn? We'll get into that, but first, Logue Farms, Inc of Woodbury, Connecticut, thank you for your four-generations of knowledge working the 900 acres of corn, and 50 acres of sweet corn that you own. The 2024 crop of Logue Farm's sweet corn is magnificent, earthy, and the ears are massive. Out of the 55 pounds that I got, there were only 2 that didn't make my cut. Very clean and consistent, with only a few off-color kernels.
According to the University of Connecticut, Logue Farms, Inc recently won the 2024 New England Green Pastures Award saying "The respect they receive in the dairy and geographic communities is further testament of their strong history and present successes."
My runners up for Connecticut's fresh corn of the year 2024 are: Tara Farm in Watertown, Guilford's Bishop's Orchards, and Freund's Farm in East Canaan.
What am I going to do with all this corn? I've probably eaten over 120 right off the cob, but I bought a great corn zipper on Amazon for $15. Scott at Logue Farms told me - 'Husk them, silk them, boil them for 4 minutes, strip them off the cob, put them in a freezer bag and get the air our, you'll eat fresh corn until it starts growing again.'
