Even though there are three lanes through most of Waterbury now, accidents still occur, and a nasty one is playing out right now in the Brass City.

According to the Department of Transportation, a multi-vehicle crash just after the 84 West / Rt. 8 interchange is snarling traffic all the way back into the Austin/Scott Road area in Waterbury right now. Only the right shoulder/right lane is getting by at the moment. This is right below the Highland Avenue bridge across 84.

From what I can see on the CT DOT traffic cameras, there are quik-dry pellets on the roadway to absorb some of the fluids spilled in the wreck, it's going to take a while for this to get cleared up. If you're driving anywhere East of Waterbury through town, I'd say avoid the area for the duration of rush hour tonight, the 5 o'clock volume is just starting to show up, and it's only going to make this a longer delay.
