My very first video game console was not "pong", even though I am old enough for it to be. No, the first one I had was an "Intellivision", a slight step above the Atari 2600 but had these ridiculous paddle controllers with plastic overlays specific for each game that fit over a keyboard mapping out which buttons to push.

That would have been around 1980, or so when my video game journey began. After Intellivision, I went to the Atari 5200, then a Sega Genesis, then Nintendo, then Super Nintendo, then Sony Playstation, PS2, PS3, and now Xbox Series S. I have played Madden on all but Intellivision, only because it was never made for that device.

I have always been partial to sports video games from the very beginning, so my favorite video game of all time may have to be NBA Jam, but with an absolute love for Intellivision Baseball and would still sit and play that for hours on end to this day.

So, naturally, we were curious to see what were the most popular video game consoles here in Connecticut and what the heck, New York too. We call on Wisevoter, to see what is the most popular in our states. First, who is Wisevoter? This is from their website...

Wisevoter was founded by Ben Kaplan in the aftermath of three seismic events in the year 2020:  The global pandemic, the economic shutdown, and widespread political unrest due to socio-cultural movements...

As a student of George Washington’s leadership principles, Kaplan wondered whether Washington’s model of healthy debate, elevation of the greater good, and citizen empowerment could help solve some of the most difficult challenges of modern times.

Not sure where all that fits into making lists of things people around the nation like, but whatever. Now, let's take a look at what we have for the Video Game Console category. Wisevoter bases its data on sales in each state and they point out that video game console sales spiked during the pandemic, but have evened out since then and will probably go down a little this year. Overall, across the nation, Xbox One seems to be the favorite by coming in number one in 22 states.

I find it kind of interesting that it is almost the reverse top 5 for New York and Connecticut, not sure what it means, but interesting nonetheless. With the Holidays upon us again, sales could make those top five lists look a little different next year.
