Miranda Lambert has had a pretty crummy year. We have all read the headlines and heard the stories about her, and Blake, and Gwen. Then, around Christmas time, she posted a picture of herself in a full length fur coat. It was one of two that were given to her by her grandmother. She received a lot of criticism for that picture.

Then, just yesterday, I read a story of how Miranda Lambert's Mutts Across America: 50 States/50 Shelters campaign gave $175,000 to animal shelters all over the United States. I couldn't help but think, "Is this damage control?" So, I decided to dig a little deeper, and I found out quite a bit about Miranda Lambert, and her love of animals. She has certainly gone up a few notches in my book.

According to Muttnation Foundation, which was started in 2007 by Miranda and her mom, Bev Lambert, to date, they have raised more than $1.5 million. This money has not only paid for food and veterinary care, but also for programs that provide education for the better care of animals, puppy mill rescues, training for service dogs, spay and neuter programs, and even changes in legislature.

But wait, there's more. In November 2015, Muttnation Foundation took an animal shelter in Oklahoma, known for its neglect and abuse of animals, and transformed it into a no-kill facility called Redemption Ranch. This facility has much larger kennels, much better medical facilities, and will only house 50 dogs at a time, so that overcrowding is not a possibility.

I am an animal lover. I will never wear fur. However, you won't see me at a protest spilling paint on people. To me, as long as we're wearing leather, eating meat, and buying products that test on animals, we can't really judge others too much. I am not a vegetarian, yet, I have not, nor will I ever, buy or eat veal. It's a very, very small thing, but as my vegetarian friend, Jen, told me, "It is something big to those animals." She's right. It reminds me of the story of the little girl who saw a starfish that had washed up on the beach. She threw it back into the water to save it. Her father said, "Do you think that throwing back one starfish into the ocean makes a difference?" She replied, "It did to that one!"
