Local Metro North Trains Begin New Reduced Service
With more and more people working from home, Metro North has started their new reduced scheduled service.
The MTA announced on Friday, that starting today (Monday) Metro North Trains will be running on a reduced essential service schedule.
Here's what they had to say about the changes in a press release on Friday:
Metro-North Railroad will commence an amended Saturday schedule on the Hudson, Harlem, and New Haven Lines on Friday, March 27, until further notice. The amended schedule will provide all-day service for healthcare workers, first responders and essential employees who are on the front lines of this public health crisis, from early in the morning until after midnight.
The schedule will have additional trains in the morning and afternoon peak periods, and hourly service during off-peak mid-day and evening periods.
During the recent crisis Metro North has seen a significant drop in ridership, therefore the new schedule has been put into effect. The new schedule is also in place to protect the health and safety of their riders and their employees.
Here are some of the other local changes and how they may affect you.
- Starting April 4, on weekends until further notice they will run an hourly service on every line.
- All Metro-North Ticket Offices to Temporarily Close in Precaution of COVID-19
- Metro-North Temporarily Not Accepting Cash Fare Payments at Ticket Counters & Trains for COVID-19 Precautions
- All riders are also encouraged to buy tickets beforehand
