Here's hoping you all had an amazing, and safe Memorial Day weekend. You have to be living under a rock to not know that the state police amp-up their patrols over holidays. Here's how Connecticut drivers fared.

Connecticut State Troopers were out patrolling highways and roads in Connecticut over this past Memorial Day weekend. During this enforcement period the state police say they used traditional and non-traditional patrol cars while running roaming DUI and enforcement patrols. The increased enforcement period ran from 12:01 a.m. May 25, 2018 through 11:59 p.m. on May 29, 2018.
Troopers focused on drunken driving violations, aggressive drivers, distracted drivers and speeding. Sobriety checkpoints and targeted DUI patrols were also in place throughout the whole holiday weekend.

These State Police stats cover the time period starting at midnight on May 25, 2018 to May 28, 2018 at 11:59 p.m. The results are as follows:

Connecticut State Troopers issued 909 speeding violations, 396 seat belt violations, 38 DUI arrests, plus 2708 violations that are considered to be hazardous, such as cell phone use while driving, unsafe lane changes, tailgating, and failure to signal.

State troopers also investigated 313 car accidents, 62 of which had associated injuries. Out of the accidents, there was one fatality that happened on Rte.15 at exit 67 in Meriden.

With July 4th right around the corner, my hope is that drivers stay safe and do better.
