Memorial Day DUI Checkpoints Announced in Waterbury and New Haven

It's coming up on Memorial Day weekend, the official kick-off to the warm Summer months. Kids are home from school, you have an extra day off from work, and our local police officers are gearing up for a long weekend of additional enforcement effort to keep us all safe on the roads. If you're one of the millions of motorists planning on hitting the highways this weekend, the Connecticut State Police will be monitoring you in many ways, and they've just announced where they'll be setting up DUI/Sobriety checkpoints over the next few days leading up to the holiday.

There are two separate DUI/Sobriety checkpoints slated to occur over the 2023 Memorial Day weekend in Connecticut, according to the Connecticut State Police. The first will occur in New Haven on Thursday evening, May 25, from 6PM until 2AM. Troopers from Troop G in Bridgeport will be conducting a DUI/Sobriety checkpoint at the Exit 3 on and off-ramps of I-91 (Trumbull Street Exit - New Haven). Additionally, Troopers from Troop A in Southbury will be conducting a DUI/Sobriety checkpoint in Waterbury on Saturday evening, May 27, from 6PM to 2AM on the Exit 18 off-ramp (West Main St/Highland Ave). The Connecticut State Police have also announced that Troopers from each of the 11 agencies will be conducting extra roving DUI patrols across Connecticut from the evening of May 25 through the evening of May 29.

During the 2022 Memorial Day weekend, Connecticut State Police responded to 6,448 calls, issued 615 tickets for speeding, 145 seatbelt violations, made 37 DUI arrests, and investigated 359 accidents. Slow down.
