Melba’s Back, And Now Looking For Her New Forever Home

A few months ago, Melba was our featured Pet of the Week. She was adopted and thought she was set with her forever home, but things didn't work out like she was hoping, so now she's back and looking for a new forever home.

Melba is a two year old bulldog who is a cross between an English bulldog and an ole English bulldog.

She came to the Animal Welfare Society as a relinquished pet when she had some trouble getting along with the other dog in the home. She was adopted from the AWS, but wound up back again for reasons beyond her control.

She's very loving, just like most bulldogs, but as they have found out, she would be best as the only pup in the house. By the way, she does get along well with cats, go figure.

Melba would be best in a home with someone who understands Bull Dogs, and if you've ever had one, then you know what we mean. They can be kind of stubborn, and they droll a lot, but can be amazing dogs in the right environment. As we always say, when you adopt a dog, you adopt the breed.

Melba is up to date on all her vaccines, has already been neutered, and is looking for a family ready to give her some love with experience caring for her bulldog needs.

Now, because of the COVID-19 restrictions, if you're interested in adopting one of the featured pets, or any dog or cat at the shelter, first fill out an application on their site at aws-shelter.org. Then, once your application is approved, you can call them at 860-354-1350 and schedule your one-on-one limited contact meeting.

The shelter is still looking for some items that they need to help keep the animals safe and clean. Right now, they are looking for bleach, paper towels and dry cat food.

If you can contribute, you can drop off the items at the shelter at 8 Dodd Road in New Milford. Just let them know you're going to drop something off, then you can do it with no contact by just leaving it in front of their building. You can also check the Animal Welfare website for the Amazon wish list, and have the items delivered right to the shelter.
