Since we've been sheltering in place over the last 7 weeks, we really haven't had much to celebrate, but today we can all celebrate, while maintaining social distancing, because it's Star Wars Day.

It's May 4th, and as they say, "May the 4th be with you".

We seem to have all picked up on that catch phrase, whether you're a fan of the movie or not, if someone says that, you know exactly what they're talking about.

But how did the phrase start and when did we first start using it? Well, according to the origin story recognized by Lucasfilm, the phrase was first used on May 4, 1979 -- the day Margaret Thatcher took office as UK prime minister. The Conservative party allegedly placed an ad in the London Evening News which read, "May the Fourth Be With You, Maggie. Congratulations."

Thanks to the social media age we live in, the phrase has taken off to the point that there are now events celebrating the day worldwide.

If you subscribe to Disney Plus you're in luck. They are getting Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker today (May 4) and that means that all nine movies in the Star Wars Skywalker saga will be available to watch in order.

The only one you won't be able to see on Disney Plus is Solo: A Star Wars Story, which will not be available on Disney Plus until July 9, so you'll have to check out Netflix for that one.

Some other Star Wars related things you can do to celebrate right at home is build Star Wars LEGO sets, play a Star Wars video game, how about having the kids make a Star Wars craft, or maybe throw a virtual Star Wars party using Zoom or House Party apps.

But wait, how about a two day virtual online revelry that they are calling "May the 4th Be With You, and a Revenge of the 5th celebration."

Now, if you're looking to add to your Star Wars wardrobe, or your Star Wars memorabilia, it's a good day to save with May the 4th deals at StarWars.com.

Here's a funny video I found from a few years ago that proves without a shadow of a doubt that Star Wars fans know more about the franchise then they do about current events.

So have fun, enjoy the day, and just remember the power of the 4th.
