Add a Detour to the Already Terrible I-84, Lane Closures in Both Directions

Oh my God, when will this project end? Even if it's ahead of schedule, it's still a nightmare.

Here's my hell, and I'm so not alone in this. I live out near the Hartford area and I commute every day to the Danbury area. That means driving through Waterbury on I-84 twice a day. Of course, there are other routes, but nothing direct, so 84 it is.

The I-84 Waterbury Project is massive to say the least. It's projected to last until 2020, but Governor Malloy has said in the past that it is ahead of schedule. The work is incredible, but like any undertaking of this magnitude, traffic delays are unavoidable.

With that in mind, the I-84 Waterbury Project does consistently provide construction alerts. This one is big, so heads up. Here's the info according to the site:

I-84 Eastbound and Westbound will be closed nightly and detoured at Exit 25. The closure and detour will start on Sunday night, May 14, and continue through Thursday night, May 18, 2017. The closures will take place from 11:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.

These temporary detours are in addition to the regular nightly lane closures permitted within the area. If inclement weather causes postponement of work, the rain date will be Sunday, May 21.

Detour routes: Motorists will detour from I-84 to local roads, and back to I-84, via detours at both westbound and eastbound Exits 25 as described below.

Eastbound:

I-84 traffic will detour off the highway at the Eastbound Exit 25, continue straight on Reidville Drive, and reenter I-84 via the EB 25 on ramp at Scott Road.

Westbound:

I-84 traffic will detour off the highway at the Westbound Exit 25, continue straight onto Plank Road, and reenter I-84 via the WB 25 on ramp.

So there you go. I always say, "Knowledge is power." What I also know is that regardless of the 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. time frame, the backups will likely extend past those hours.
