According to a press release from Connecticut State Police, the events leading up to the incident began when West Hartford Police Officers attempted to stop a vehicle that was wanted in connection to prior criminal activity.

The Officers deployed stop sticks, but they continued to flee from West Hartford onto I-84 eastbound. Eventually, the vehicle came to rest on the 84 eastbound exit 46 off-ramp to Sisson Avenue. Both occupants of the vehicle exited and a female occupant, 33 year old Maia Marieliz, was immediately taken into custody. The unidentified male occupant attempted to flee by jumping over the Jersey barrier, but fell 70 feet to the ground below. The man was taken into custody on an outstanding robbery warrant and taken to a local hospital to treat his injuries.

The Central District Major Crimes Squad is investigating the incident and the aspect of use of force, and they are requesting that if you have any information pertaining to this incident, that you contact detectives at 860-706-5656. All information will remain confidential and this incident remains under investigation.

I worked in Hartford for many years and the Sisson Avenue off-ramp is the left hand exit that you see right before you get into the heart of downtown. I can't imagine the terror of a 70 foot drop in the dark.
