Lynn Deming Park In New Milford Remains Closed

If your Memorial Day weekend plans included a picnic at Lynn Deming Park in New Milford, you will have to change those plans. The park remains closed.

New Milford Mayor Pete Bass announced guidelines for the park on Facebook this morning (May 20.) Those guidelines to include access for boaters that have rented a boat slip at the park and also kayakers.

If you have rented a boat slip at Lynn Deming, the process of putting your boat in can begin by appointment only starting Thursday, May 21. Once that process has been completed, access to the boat launch can be used, again by appointment. Call New Milford Parks & Rec at 860-355-6050 to make your appointment.

Kayaks will be allowed to launch as of Tuesday as well as those who have property on Candlewood Lake and have purchased a one-day boat pass. Boaters will have to comply with DEEP social distancing practices.

The rest of Lynn Deming park remains closed due to social distancing. Security and New Milford police will be monitoring the park. Bass assures fans of the park that more information will be coming soon, but in the meantime the park will not be available as a picnic option.

Picnic shelters have also been closed at Connecticut state parks per the DEEP. In addition, inland swimming is not allowed. Swimming is only OK at shoreline state parks according to guidance issued as of May 19. The DEEP says that they are not worried about swimming itself, but more the potential for overcrowding of the beach areas.

Kent Falls State Park as well as Seaside State Park in Waterford have been closed for the duration of the health crisis due to overcrowding concerns.
