Tuesday July 24, sadly, we learned that the Walmart located at 275 Main Street, downtown White Plains, will be closing on or before August 10th.

The Westchester County retail outlet that was opened back in 2006 says the store’s pharmacy will close prior to the official day, most likely on August 7. Prescription records will be stored so that they can be accessed at other Walmart stores.

After the White Plains location closes, the closest Walmart pharmacy will be at the Elmsford Sam's Club. Nearly 400 employees will be impacted by the closure, according to the Yonkers Daily Voice.

Some workers affected will be reportedly moved to other stores, and the ones who don’t get moved will receive severance pay, which will pay out through the end of October. A chain spokesperson said the decision was based on the fact that the store is under-performing, among other things.

Expect to see deep discounts and clearance sales as inventory is liquidated and is some cases, moved to other Walmart locations. Perishable goods will be donated to community hunger assistance organizations.
