If you live in any of these 3 towns you can officially say you live in one of the worst places to live in New York.

Living in the Hudson Valley for 30+ years I have to say that I’m shocked that any of our towns made the top 10 list of worst places to live in New York. Not only did a few of our towns make the top 10 but we took 3 spots on a list we want no part of.

The website Money Inc recently announced that they have completed an in-depth investigation into what are some of the worst places to live in New York. Apparently, they weighed numerous factors including the safety of the area, how the public schools rank, the diversity of employment opportunities, and if there are good options for leisure and entertainment in the area. Based on a combination of these factors, here are the 10 towns they say are the worst to live in New York.

Poughkeepsie, New York

Poughkeepsie comes in as the 6th worst place to live in New York. Why? Money Inc says it's on this list “due to the economic problems in this area are so significant that it has now become one of the most undesirable locations in New York.” They mention that almost 20% of Poughkeepsie’s population is living below the poverty line.

The Hudson Valley gets a break at #5 as Utica takes that spot but are far as the next 4 spots go, we take 2 out of the top 4 places.

Newburgh, New York

Newburgh takes #4 on this list due to a "combination of factors" including an above-average unemployment rate, and a lack of safety. Newburgh is the 17th most dangerous place to live in New York according to Money Inc.
