Police are currently searching the woods trying to locate the suspect off the NYS Thruway in Woodbury, New York.

The New York State Police, along with numerous law enforcement agencies are currently searching heavily wooded area along the New York State Thruway trying to apprehend a suspect who fled an early morning accident.

According to the Town of Woodbury Police Department Facebook page, they are assisting the New York State Police in trying to locate a suspect who fled police after a police pursuit ended along the Thruway. The suspect was reportedly being chased by police in a stolen vehicle on the northbound side of the thruway around 6:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 18th, when the pursuit ended and the suspect fled.

Police haven't said how the pursuit ended as this is an active investigation but a few witnesses driving in the area told us that it ended with the stolen vehicle crashing. The northbound lanes of the thruway were closed for a bit as police attempted to apprehend the suspect, who is still at large.

Suspect Runs From Police in Woodbury, New York

Woodbury Police posted the area (above) that was being searched and appears to be near the Skyline area of Woodbury, NY. The subject is of Indian descent and is wearing a black shirt, black pants, and no shoes according to police. They also said they do not believe that there is any current danger to the public but are asking for the community's help, "If anyone sees the subject please call 911 or 845-928-2341 and notify us of where he was last seen."
