Inmate Stabs Officer At Green Haven Correctional In New York
A violent situation unfolded at Green Haven Correctional Facility in Stormville, New York on July 21st just before 6pm. This is not the first time an incident such at this one has occurred at the maximum security facility in New York's Hudson Valley.

Agitated Inmate At Green Haven Correctional Facility
Reports indicate that on the evening of Tuesday July 21st around 5:40pm, a 42-year-old male inmate approached a female Corrections Officer in the cell block, allegedly acting out and 'being agitated.' The inmate then reached into his pant pocket, removing an unknown (at the time) object and moving towards the C.O. Simultaneously, the officer activated her alarm as the inmate then ran at her with the unknown object in his hand.
The official reports shared that in an attempt to distance herself from the agitated inmate, the C.O. ran towards the cell block gate while another inmate intervened. As the situation escalated, it was determined that the agitated inmate had an 'icepick type weapon' in his hand that he was attempting to stab the officer with. The stabbing attempt, though unsuccessful, did result in that officer losing her footing and falling to the ground, injuring her knee during the fall.
It was at that time that three additional officers reported to the area, immediately giving the inmate several orders to 'place his hands on the wall' - it was reported that the inmate refused.

In response to the inmate not following orders, the officers tried to utilize OC spray, aka pepper spray, but this tactic had no immediate impact on the situation. Even with several officers on the scene, the inmate continued with this behavior, and charged towards one of the other officers. The inmate did make contact this time, striking a male officer several times in the back.
Following this exchange, the weapon was eventually recovered, and identified as a 'nine-inch icepick style weapon.' It was also at this time the 42-year-old inmate was able to be restrained and handcuffed, and then relocated to a 'Special Housing Unit.'
The two officers were transported to Mid Hudson Regional Hospital for treatment; the female officer's knee, and the male officer with puncture wounds to his back, a laceration to the back of his head, as well as pain and swelling to his shoulder.
The inmate was scheduled for parole this upcoming September, this after being jailed for a six-to-eight-year sentence following a Nassau County conviction for Robbery in the 2nd degree and Grand Larceny in the 4th that took place in September. He has been transferred to Shawangunk Correctional Facility following these attacks.
