Everyone’s talking about the snowstorm headed for western Connecticut, but what can we realistically expect today?

We spoke with our meteorologist, Jack Drake, yesterday (12/1/25), and here’s what he had to say about the much-anticipated winter weather heading our way.

Lou: Jack why don't you tell us what we're going to see?

Jack: "Yeah, honestly this is a tough one, guys. We're going to get a rain/snow line tomorrow morning right along the I-84 corridor, so there very well could be one of those situations where if you're on a hill in western Connecticut and you're above 600 feet, you do pretty well — you get the snow, potentially a couple of inches of snow. If you're in the valley, you might not see a lot at all. If you're down by Candlewood Lake or somewhere along the I-84 corridor in the valley, you're not looking at a whole lot. So somewhere that rain/snow line is going to set up — it's really hard to pin down. We have additional short-range data coming out today that should help us out a little bit, but even so, it is sometimes too close to call. Where it is not too close to call is up in Dave's neck of the woods there in Litchfield County — yeah, Torrington — where there is a winter storm watch in effect there for northern Litchfield. I think 3–6 inches is a good, conservative estimate up there, and some town will hit that 6-inch mark. So it's always tough here in Greater Danbury, but up in Litchfield they should get a pretty legit storm."

Jack added that the storm would likely begin around 9 am and any snow we do get would be heavy, wet, sloppy snow. Later in the day Jack posted an update to his Facebook page Jack Drake - Western, CT Weather that read:

"Final call for tomorrow. I was thinking back to a few “rain days” in December when school was cancelled for a few flakes when I was growing up. I know we are critical of weather forecasts and models now, but I do believe it’s gotten better over time. Some will disagree - and that’s okay. Anyways, about 0.50 to 0.75 inches of rain tomorrow. Some wintery stuff possible at the onset. Litchfield county still gets snow, most in the highest hills."
