According to MSN, citing Money Digest and World Atlas, one small Connecticut town is getting national attention as one of the state's best places to spend your retirement years. That town is Canterbury, tucked away in Connecticut's scenic "Quiet Corner."

World Atlas highlighted Canterbury for offering something many retirees are looking for: a slower pace of life without sacrificing history, community, or affordability. The town's historic downtown is filled with classic New England charm, including the Prudence Crandall Museum, a National Historic Landmark that preserves the story of the first school in Connecticut established to educate African American girls. If you're into nostalgia, the Haul of Fame Trucking Museum is another local attraction featuring vintage trucks and transportation history.

The demographics back up the retirement appeal. Nearly 27% of Canterbury's residents are 65 or older, making it one of Connecticut's more retirement-friendly communities. According to the report, the average cost of senior housing in Canterbury is about $5,628 per month, which is slightly below the current national average for assisted living. For retirees looking to own a home instead, World Atlas also recognized Canterbury as one of Connecticut's more affordable retirement destinations, thanks to a median home price of around $384,500.

Of course, retirement isn't just about finding an affordable place to live.
