CT's Most-Googled Horror Movie for 2025

According to Casino.online, new research looked at Google searches to find the most popular horror movie in every state this Halloween — and Connecticut’s pick really caught my eye.

Across the country, Get Out was the top-searched horror flick, taking the number one spot in nine states. Jordan Peele’s masterpiece still delivers all the tension and unease anyone could want this time of year.

But here in Connecticut, our top horror movie wasn’t new at all — it was Jaws. Nearly 50 years after it hit theaters, Spielberg’s shark still haunts Nutmeggers from the shoreline to Candlewood Lake. You can’t help but wonder how many people decided to skip swimming after a rewatch.

The study found that 27 states prefer classic horror movies made before 2000, while 23 favor modern ones.

Look, I love Jaws—it’s an all-time classic—but I’ve never really thought of it as a horror movie. For me, horror is Michael Myers slowly creeping around Haddonfield on Halloween night, looking for babysitters to chop into bits.

Put it this way: when I go swimming in the ocean (which I love doing, by the way), I fully accept there’s a 50/50 chance I’ll be attacked by something in the water. It's a risk I assume going into someone else's home, But I don’t stroll around the neighborhood every night assuming there’s a 50/50 shot I’ll be hacked to pieces by some oversized brat with sister issues.

Is Jaws terrifying? Absolutely. But is it a classic horror movie? I’d say no.

And while we’re on the topic of movie debates—I love Die Hard, but it’s not a Christmas movie. Prove me wrong, nipple head.

P.S. That oversized brat Michael, he's it. Halloween is the greatest horror movie of all time.

Recently, I found a Youtube video that gives a visual tour of a decommissioned missile sit in CT, located in both Portland & Glastonbury, CT in the Meshomasic State Forest. The video was posted by “Adventures in Melancholy” and the host does a great job of explaining exactly what we are looking at. The following photos are from the video and they are of the Hartford site, meaning it was intended to defend Hartford, CT.
