According to a release from the City of Danbury, the city’s Summer Movie Night series is rolling on, and the next free movie night is coming up this Friday.

The next movie on the schedule is the 1995 family adventure classic “Jumanji,” starring Robin Williams. The movie will be shown Friday, August 14 at Candlewood Town Park, located at 36 E. Hayestown Road in Danbury. The movie will begin at dusk, which should be around 8 p.m.

So, if you’re looking for something to do with the family Friday night that doesn’t involve spending a small fortune at a movie theater, this is a pretty good option. Grab a blanket or some lawn chairs, bring the kids, and settle in for a movie under the stars.

The Summer Movie Nights are being presented in partnership with the Danbury Library and the Danbury Recreation Department, and the entire series is free to attend.

And “Jumanji” is just the beginning. According to the updated schedule, there are two more movies coming to Candlewood Town Park later this month.

On Friday, August 21, the series will feature “Zootopia 2.” That date was changed from the original schedule, so make sure you have the updated date on your calendar.

Then, on Friday, August 28, it’s “Hoppers,” another new addition to the summer lineup.

All of the movies are scheduled to begin around dusk, so you don't have to worry about arriving at some ridiculously early hour. Just keep in mind that the start time will depend on when the sun goes down.

I love the idea of these free outdoor movie nights, especially because they give families something fun to do without having to spend $100 on popcorn, drinks and movie tickets.

So, if you’ve never checked one of these out, this Friday might be the perfect time. “Jumanji,” a summer night, Candlewood Town Park and free admission? That’s a pretty easy yes.
