Connecticut Gun Buyback Comes to Danbury with Gift Cards and Free Gun Safes

According to a release from the Danbury Police Department, the department will once again be taking part in a statewide effort aimed at getting unwanted firearms out of homes and keeping kids safe.

Danbury will participate in the 6th Annual #KeepKidsSafe Connecticut Statewide Gun Buyback and Gun Safe Giveaway Day on Saturday, October 3. The event will run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Danbury Police Department at 375 Main Street.

The idea is pretty simple: If you have an unwanted firearm sitting around your home, this gives you an opportunity to turn it in safely and anonymously while receiving a gift card in return.

According to the event information, no identification is required, and gun shop owners are not eligible to participate. Gift card amounts vary depending on the type of firearm being turned in, with payments ranging from $25 to $200. There will also be a limited number of free gun safes available for people who have a valid pistol permit.

There are some important rules to keep in mind. Firearms being turned in need to be transported in the trunk of the vehicle. The program does not offer gift cards for certain items, including non-working firearms, black-powder weapons, flare guns, pellet or BB guns, and ammunition or magazine clips, although some of those items may still be accepted for disposal.
