Danbury DUI Checkpoint Planned for Main Street This Saturday

According to a release from the Danbury Police Department, drivers traveling through the city should expect some extra police activity on Saturday night, September 5th.

Danbury Police will be conducting a DUI checkpoint during the evening hours in the area of Main Street. The operation is part of an effort to get impaired drivers off the road and, hopefully, prevent someone from making a terrible decision that could put themselves or somebody else in danger.

Police are reminding drivers that operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs can have serious consequences. It doesn't take much for an impaired driver to lose control, react too slowly, or make a decision that puts everyone around them at risk. You might think you're fine to drive, but that's not necessarily how your driving skills are going to look from behind the wheel.

And if you're planning on going out Saturday night and having a few drinks, Danbury Police are encouraging you to figure out your ride home before the first drink is ever poured. Designate someone to stay sober, arrange for a rideshare, call a taxi, get a ride from a friend or family member, or use whatever safe option works for you.

Basically, don't make the decision about whether you're capable of driving after you've already been drinking. Make the plan ahead of time.

The checkpoint is specifically aimed at impaired driving, but police are also asking everyone on the road to slow down, pay attention and stay alert.
