According to America’s Health Rankings Annual Report, Connecticut continues to quietly do what it does best: keep people alive, reasonably healthy, and not constantly dodging preventable chaos.

The 2025 report pulls data from nearly a hundred different health and quality-of-life measures, and the big picture is actually pretty encouraging. Nationwide, premature deaths dropped, drug deaths finally ticked down for the first time in years, cancer screenings went up, physical inactivity went down, and access to mental health providers improved. That doesn’t mean everything is perfect — chronic conditions are still rising and affordability remains a problem — but overall, the country moved in the right direction. And Connecticut? We’re firmly on the right side of that trend.

In fact, Connecticut landed squarely among the healthiest states in the entire country, thanks to things like better access to care, higher screening rates, lower smoking rates, and a population that, for the most part, understands that preventive healthcare beats pretending nothing’s wrong. While rural areas across the country still lag behind metro regions in activity levels and screenings, states like Connecticut benefit from infrastructure, hospitals, and specialists being relatively close by — which actually matters when you need them.

Here’s how the top of the list shook out nationally, listed exactly how the report ranked them:

1. New Hampshire
2. Massachusetts
3. Vermont
4. Connecticut
5. Utah

That puts Connecticut in some pretty solid company, especially when you compare it to the bottom of the rankings, where the same states seem to show up year after year with worse health outcomes, higher mortality, and fewer resources.

So yeah, Connecticut winters are cold, taxes are annoying, and people complain constantly — but the tradeoff is longer life expectancy, better healthcare access, and not having to roll the dice every time you step outside. But sure… keep moving to Florida, morons. Yep, it’s warm, but enjoy giving up health and safety, walking alongside actual dinosaurs, hanging out with Florida Man, and dealing with bugs the size of volleyballs.
