Everyone loves a parade, especially on Memorial Day, when the country is honoring the men and women who gave their lives for our country.

Memorial Day parades are always plentiful throughout all of Connecticut, so I thought it would be a superb idea to let you in on which local towns are celebrating Memorial Day weekend with a good old fashioned parade. The red stars are parades that are happening prior to Memorial Day, while the blue stars represent parades that are happening on Memorial Day proper. Click each star for more info on each individual parade:

Memorial Day was originally known as Decoration Day and was first observed on May 30, 1868, to commemorate the sacrifices of Civil War soldiers. In 1873, New York became the first state to designate Memorial Day as a legal holiday. After WW I, Memorial Day became an occasion to honor those who sacrificed their lives in all of America's wars. The following are where you can get your parade on, Memorial Day style.
