Brewster Man Accused of Assaulting Taxi Driver With Knife
Rather than pay for his taxi ride, a local man allegedly assaulted his driver with a knife.
On Sunday, New York State Police from Brewster arrested 43-year-old Manuel Estabon of Brewster for assault, a class B felony, and criminal possession of a weapon, a misdemeanor.
Around 2:45 a.m., troopers received a call from a taxi driver who claimed he was assaulted by a customer with a knife.
The taxi was driving Estabon to a bank to obtain payment for the taxi ride. Before reaching the bank Estabon assaulted the victim with a knife, police say.
The taxi driver suffered wounds to the face, neck and hands, but is in stable condition, according to State Police.
Estabon allegedly fled and was found in a nearby wooded area. He was arraigned before the town of Southeast Court and remanded to the Putnam County Jail in lieu of $150,000 cash bail or $300,000 bond.
