Greater Danbury got some bad job-related news this morning with the announcement that electronic component manufacturer, Hubbell, Inc., would be closing its Newtown factory and moving most of those operations to Puerto Rico.

This news comes on the heels of a recent announcement that Hubbell would be closing their Bethel factory and moving that work to Alabama. Between the two moves, 194 jobs will be affected.

The closures of both plants will take place over the next six months. Hubbell's headquarteres are in Shelton, where they employ about 650 people. The company recently renewed its lease on the Shelton facility.

In a statement to the CT Post, Hubbell said,

This closure, and the Bethel closure announced earlier this month, is part of an ongoing operational efficiency initiative that involves Hubbell operations across the company.

According to the CT Post, Hubbell had $4.6 billion in sales last year and operating profits of $733 million.
