Connecticut State Police issued a press release on Tuesday (8/13/24) that states in part:

"On 08/12/2024, at approximately 9:40 p.m., an on-duty Trooper assigned to Troop C in Tolland was engaged in proactive traffic enforcement efforts on I-84 eastbound in the area of Exit 66 in Vernon. While monitoring traffic, the Trooper observed a white Toyota Camry traveling at a high rate of speed in the left lane of three. Using their issued laser, the Trooper determined that the Toyota was traveling at 118 MPH in a posted 65 MPH zone. In response, the Trooper maneuvered their cruiser into the travel lanes, caught up to the accused vehicle’s location and initiated a motor vehicle stop. Based upon the information obtained during the on-scene investigation, the Toyota’s male operator, identified as Rahnda Charles, DOB 05/09/1995, of Mansfield, was taken into custody and transported to Troop C."

Charles was charged with C.G.S. 14-222. Reckless Driving and was later released on a $5,000 bond. Charles is due in Rockville Superior Court on August 28th.

Takeaways:

I most impressed with the Toyota Camry right now. I've always known them to be pretty reliable but did not know they were capable of hauling a little ass.

This is a regular occurrence on I-84 and it's not limited to Vernon, CT. I've seen people go full NASCAR on 84 in the middle of a rainstorm and no one blinks. It's just an acceptable practice now.
