Once again this week, we're offering up two great pets who are currently looking for their new forever homes.

Our first pet up for adoption this week is Hawkeye. He is a 7-year-old neutered male hound mix.

He was found as a stray in Kentucky and was at a high kill shelter. They're not sure what happened in his past to get a few scars on his ears, and at 45 pounds, he's under weight so they are working to fatten him up a little.

Hawkeye will need socializing, as he is extremely nervous meeting new people, and he also get's a little jumpy around load noises. He will need an experienced adult home. At this time he seems okay with other dogs and cats, but as he gets more comfortable that could change.

The other pet who's looking for a forever home is Tanlee. She's also seven years old, is a Russian Blue, and also came from a high kill shelter in the south. Tanlee does have some special needs, she is mostly blind but can see some shadows and lights, and was pretty nervous when she first came to the shelter, but once she became comfortable with her surroundings, she has definitely blossomed into an affectionate cat looking to get a little love, and would love to rub her head on you.

Just about all pets from the Animal Welfare Society have had all their shots, and have been spayed and neutered.

Now because of the COVID-19 restrictions, if you're interested in adopting one of our featured pets, or any dog or cat at the shelter, first fill out an application on their site at aws-shelter.org. Then, once your application is approved, you can call them at 860-354-1350 and schedule your one-on-one meeting.

The shelter is still looking for some items that they need to help keep the animals safe and clean. Right now they are looking for bleach, paper towels and dry cat food.

If you can contribute, you can drop off the items at the shelter on Dodd Road in New Milford. Just let them know you're going to drop something off, then you can do it with no contact by just leaving it in front of their building.
