Earlier this week, The Cortlandt Daily Voice reported that a driver was pulled over on just south of Pudding Street on theTaconic State Parkway in Putnam Valley by a man impersonating a police officer.

The white Ford Crown Victoria sure looked legit with flashing red lights on the front grill. He pulled up behind the 2005 Acura MDX, stepped out of the car and pulled out a black pistol as he approached and took the victim's wallet and cell phone.

The world just seems to be getting more and more scary. How do you keep yourself safe in a similar situation? Newsnet5.com offers some tips:

  • A police car, marked or unmarked, should have lights and flashers.
  • If you are being pulled over in a desolate area, you may drive to a more secure and populated place before stopping. Just make sure that you call 911 and let the operator know what is happening.
  • Speaking of 911, if you are ever wary of being pulled over, call them and tell them the situation. The emergency officer who answers will guide you in what to do.

If you have any information on the incident above which happened Wednesday morning around 6:20 am, New York State Police are asking you to please contact Investigator Peter Ciacci at 914-788-8044 or Peter.Ciacci@troopers.ny.gov The man impersonating a police officer in the incident on the Taconic was wearing a black jacket.
