A Ridgefield High School student who's had enough of gun violence in schools and Congressional inaction on gun safety, has taken matters into her own hands.

Lane Murdock is a 15-year-old student at Ridgefield High School and she's calling for a day of protest and solidarity on April 20. It's one of several youth-inspired movements for gun safety following the Florida high school shooting by a gunman with an AR 15-style rifle.

Others seem to be listening to Lane, her idea for the school walkout on April 20th has already gained more then 75,000 supporters in just four days.

Lane told newstimes.com just how the idea for a walkout came about:

When I heard about the news in Florida, I thought to myself, that’s kind of the norm in American culture, and that’s not okay, so I decided to make my petition and get a movement started. There has been too much complacency on the part of politicians when it comes to gun violence.

Murdock from Ridgefield has her petition online with the campaign platform change.org. So far, she's seen her appeal grow by tens of thousands in just a few days.
