4 Saved By Good Samaritan After Boat Capsizes Along Connecticut Coast
A day of boating turned into a nightmare when a small boat capsized on Long Island Sound.
On Saturday morning (July 21), the command center of the Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound received an SOS, according to a report by Newstimes.com. An urgent message was then sent out alerting boaters nearby which prompted a Good Samaritan to the rescue. Four people were on board the 21-foot "pleasure craft" which was taking on water quickly. Waterford Police and The Station New London also responded to the scene and brought the people aboard to safety. Luckily, no one was hurt. The Coast Guard took the opportunity to issue the following statement:
The Coast Guard reminds boaters to always wear a life jacket. The number one cause of boating fatalities is drowning, most often by sudden, unexpected entry into the water. Wearing a life jacket increases the chances of surviving a boating accident.” - Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound
