Forget the Groundhog, NWS Says Winter Ain't Over Yet

Tomorrow is Ground Hog Day. The day that we let a furry woodland creature decide our forecast fate. Will we have six more weeks of winter? Will we have an early spring? The way I look at it is this: either way, the calendar says that spring will begin in a month and a half.

The National Weather Service couldn't care less about a rodent that is pulled out of a hole to see his shadow, because they say that says winter ain't over yet!

A Hazardous Weather Outlook has been issued for Southern Connecticut, Northeast New Jersey and Southeast New York. Light snow will fall tonight which may cause hazardous travel for the Friday morning commute.

There is a chance of at least 6 inches of snow Sunday night into Monday morning. However, that precipitation may mix with rain which means that we accumulations will not that significant at all, but a mess never-the-less.

The following weather statement has been issued by the National Weather Service:

A cold front is forecast to move across the area tonight and into early Friday morning. Precipitation with the front is expected to start as rain, however as colder air moves in behind the front, the rain will change over to a wintry mix before changing to all
snow after midnight. As temperatures fall towards and below freezing by Friday morning, there is a high threat for icy conditions to develop during the morning commute, resulting in hazardous driving conditions.
