Federal Court Judge Reverses the Mask Mandate for Planes and Trains
According to the website nbcnews.com, a federal judge in Florida has abolished the mask mandate for planes and trains, calling it "unlawful."
U.S. District Court Judge Kathryn Kimball Mizelle said the CDC had overstepped its authority by ordering the mandate in February 2021. Keep in mind that although the mask mandare has been legally struck down, each individual airline can set their own policy on masks which just leads to more confusion.
The original lawsuit was brought by two women, Ana Carolina Daza and Sarah Pope, along with the Health Freedom Defense Fund. The question now is, will this be appealed to the 11th Circuit Court and then possibly to the Supreme Court? You might not want to put away those masks just yet. Check out this comment on reddit.com. Do you agree or disagree?
Judge Mizelle, who once clerked for Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, was appointed to the Middle District of Florida bench in 2020 by President Donald Trump. There is a chance the Justice Department may block the decision and reinstate the mandate, but there has been no word yet from the Justice Department.
