A major incident occurred this morning, November 13, at the Veterans Hospital in West Haven, according to officials. Two people have tragically died as the result of a steam explosion took place at the West Haven VA Medical Center located at 950 Campbell Ave in West Haven.

State police confirm that their crews were reported to the scene this morning, and there is an ongoing investigation taking place.

West Haven Police additionally took to Facebook to announce the major incident and confirmed that "this is an isolated incident with no threats to the public". They followed up with an update that there will be a press conference on the subject taking place at 2 PM today.

Just recently, Governor Ned Lamont took to Twitter to express his condolences as well as confirm the two deaths that took place from this incident. "State emergency management officials are actively working with local and federal officials to respond to the explosions that occurred this morning at the West Haven VA Medical Center and will continue to provide as much aid as necessary to conduct an investigation." Lamont added, "early indications are that this appears to have been caused by a steam pipe. At this time, we can confirm that there have been two deaths, and our hearts go out to their families and colleagues at the VA Center."
