Brookfield, CT is a sleepy New England town with plenty of history.

According to public documents from 2014, there are 16,452 people that occupy the area. Brookfield has an abundance of ridges and valleys and the town sits between Candlewood Lake and the Housatonic River. Brookfield is scenic above and below ground. I've worked here for 22 years and I thought I'd seen every inch of town, but I was recently informed otherwise.

Recently, I was having a discussion with a friend of mine, I told this person I'd accessed some caves and tunnels in my hometown of Brewster, NY which is just over the NY/CT State Line. He knows how much I love local history, and saw how excited I was about this journey. He told me there was an area of Brookfield, CT that I needed to see, one that most residents have never seen. He told me about a tunnel, one that was not far away from where we were sitting. I made note of the conversation and bookmarked the destination for a future trip.

I'm sorry, I'm not going to tell you where this is, or how to get there. I have to work in this community and I'm not going to be the guy responsible for a rash of trespassing. The last time I did an extensive gallery about Brookfield, people got super pissed. They acted as I'd done something to hurt them.

It was an article called "Vacant Brookfield Properties That Give Me the Creeps." I got all these veiled threats about not going to these spots again. Third-hand whispers, tell him, so and so said don't go there again. Blah, blah blah. These ugly properties are right there for everyone to look at. Should we pretend like they are not there? Should we act as if they are not an eyesore for the community?

This has been one of the more eye-opening things I've learned from doing my job. There are actually people who cannot stomach when someone points out what is wrong with their community, especially when they may be responsible.

Amazing Pictures and Facts About I-95 (WRKI) and Its Broadcast Tower

Mark Weiss is a retired broadcast engineer, avid I-95 listener and a drone enthusiast. Recently, I published an article that featured drone photography and Mark messaged me and said, "that's nothing, you should see what I have."

I asked him to share what he had and he sent these stunning photos. He photographed the I-95 (WRKI) broadcast tower from above. Weiss shot the photos in 2018. He sent them to me and attached a note that read: "Flown by DJI Phantom 4 Pro 2.0."

Rather than just publish the photos, I wanted to add some accessory information. I spoke to a few current employees, a few former employees and dug through the oldest file cabinet we have to find out some things, even I didn't know. These are some amazing photos of our broadcast tower and some fun information about it's history and the history of I-95.
