An awful hoarding situation in Dutchess County has a heartwarming ending for one rescue pup.
Over 20 Dogs Saved from Hoarding Situation in Milan, NY
Several local animal rescues were on the scene earlier this year to assist in what some volunteers called the "worst hoarding situation" they have ever encountered.
What the Ulster County SPCA thought would be a 9 dog rescue, turned into a 22 dog rescue.
In January 2024, the Ulster County SPCA reported that a Milan New York home housed 22 Great Dane dogs. These dogs were left to fend for themselves after their owner sadly passed away. A statement posted by The Ulster County SPCA added "These conditions were unlivable for any species."
Ulster County SPCA Begins Learning Process With Rescued Great Danes
After the dust had settled, the Ulster County SPCA got to work training the rescued Great Danes.
When the dogs first made it to UCSPCA, they didn't know how to walk on leashes, they were malnourished, had some skin and health problems, and were a bit fearful of humans.
However, by February 2024 the staff at the UCSPCA had teamed up with Valerie Ann Erwin. Erwin is a certified NePoPo Gold Graduate and an Instructor at the Canine/Human Relationship Institute in Blue Ridge, Texas.
2 of the Great Danes, Rocky and Lincoln, began "doggy school."
6 Months Later Rescued Great Dane Finds New Home
We love it when these rescue stories have a happy ending.
Earlier this the Ulster County SPCA shared some amazing news. Lincoln has found his forever home!
Valerie Ann Erwin has welcomed Lincoln into her family. The UCSPCA explains that Lincoln, and Rocky, have both "blossomed beyond expectations!" Adding that not only is Lincoln finally home with Erwin, but he's also helping her with her training classes"
Lincoln has even assisted in continuing education classes for dog trainers, being a working dog for those without their own demo dogs. He now travels regularly everywhere with Valerie as she attends and provides training for other dog trainers across the country and internationally.
