Danbury is now the home to a a new Authentic Mexican restaurant - Los Rivera Cafe - located at 1 Ives Street in Danbury.

Honestly, my wife, Mindy, has never been a fan of Mexican cuisine. She believes that all Mexican dishes are spicy and contain beans which she's never been a fan of. So I've concluded that she needs to be introduced to authentic Mexican food and the Los Rivera Cafe is an ideal place to start.

Not only is the food true to its heritage, but the décor is from Mexico, too, which includes handmade paintings that adorn the walls and authentic hanging lamps. The traditional dishes served at Los Rivera Cafe come from Rivera's mother-in-law, Maricruz Rivera, who also works as the sous chef.

Planning and opening a new restaurant is hard work, but Rivera's husband loves his mom's cooking so much, he wanted to share it with everybody, and it was also a way to provide jobs for the family.

Three years ago, the Riveras moved their family to Danbury from Queens, where she worked in the restaurant business. Still, once they settled in Connecticut, Diana felt something was missing and that something was "a piece of New York City," which became her new restaurant, Los Rivera Cafe.
