If you were watching the New York Jets play the Denver Broncos this past Sunday (10/08/23) you heard his name.

He had 5 tackles, a sack and a forced fumble all in the same game, a game his team lost 31-21. I'm talking about Denver Bronco's Defensive End Zach Allen who played high school ball at New Canaan.

Zach graduated from New Canaan High in 2014 but not before winning a State Championship. Then, it was onto Boston College where Zach had an illustrious football career. In 2017, he racked up 14 tackles in a single game against Virginia Tech. As a Senior, Zach was named to the All-ACC Second team, the Walter Camp Football Foundation Connecticut Player of the Year and made the New England Football Writers All-New England Team.

In 2019, the Arizona Cardinals drafted Zach in the third round with the 65th overall pick. He played alongside JJ Watt in Arizona and according to ESPN, Watt says he was like a little brother. Then, in March of this year (2023), Allen signed a three year, $47.75 Million deal with Denver. ESPN says over $30 million of that contract was guaranteed at signing.

Allen appears to be a beast and someone we should look for when the Broncos are on TV. We can say "Hey, you see that guy? He's from Connecticut. Yeah, it's true I heard about it from Lou Milano of the I-95 Morning Show."

I’ve been watching the NFL my whole life and while the game has changed drastically in my 42+ years, but one thing remains the same, you must be a “tough guy” to make it to the league. On that level of athleticism, all the players are strong and physical but some clearly are better than others. The following are some of the players who go beyond, passing the eye test and were flat out scary on a football field.
