The film is based on the best-selling book, A Journal For Jordan: A Story of Love and Honor based on a true story written by Dana Canedy about her fiancé's death. Canedy's fiancé, First Sergeant Charles Monroe King, was killed in Baghdad one month shy of finishing his tour of duty in 2006, according to the website okmagazine.com. King had written a journal in Baghdad for his son he would never see.
