A Danbury School Was Named 2020 National Blue Ribbon School
In a world enveloped by a pandemic, there is some good news to report from Danbury. For the last three out of four years, the State of Connecticut has named Danbury's South Street a School of Distinction, so it's no surprise that South Street has recently been named a 2020 National Blue Ribbon School.
South Street Elementary School has been chosen as one of four in Connecticut and 367 to be named a National Blue Ribbon School. State Education Commissioner, Miquel Cardona, told Hearst Connecticut Media,
Receiving this prestigious honor speaks to the true team effort it takes to make tangible progress on closing gaps in opportunities, access, and outcomes that exist for too many of our students.
South Street was recognized for this national honor for its advancement in closing achievement gaps. 87% of the student body are from disadvantaged families, and more than 50% are English learners, according to an article in the Newstimes.
This award confirms the hard work of the students, educators, and families at South Street. We salute the South Street Elementary School on behalf of our entire team here at WRKI and WDBY on your well deserved National Blue Ribbon School Award.
