Danbury’s Semi-Pro Football Team Flames the Competition in First Game Ever

The return of sports is a good thing during the pandemic. Just driving by a field with kids, or grown adults having fun doing something athletic that they love is a welcome sight. Connecticut is home to a legion of semi-professional sports teams, and it seems as if all of the baseball teams are sitting this one out. Not the Connecticut Fire, though, they came out swinging over the weekend in their professional debut, and lambasted the competition.

The Connecticut Fire are members of the East Coast Football League (ECFL) and they are playing their home games this inaugural season at John Perry Field - 140 Memorial Drive in Danbury. This past Saturday, August 8, the Fire opened up their season with a resounding 52-6 victory over in-state, conference rival, The Connecticut Thundercats.

This was the first of four home games for the Fire. This coming weekend, they travel to Veteran's Memorial Field in West Haven to take on Hamden's Connecticut Mustangs.  The next home game on the schedule is August 22, as the Fire host another in-state rival, the Silver City Wolves out of Meriden.

Starting off the season with a 52-6 victory, and going 1-0 is a nice feeling. Congratulations to the players and coaches of Danbury's Connecticut Fire. It's very nice to write about a sporting event in our community once again.
