The Danbury High School Wrestling program had accomplished just about everything a program could, except one thing, they never had one of their wrestlers win a National Title.

Enter Ryan Jack, who wrote his name in the Danbury High record books last weekend, as he became the first ever Danbury High School wrestler to win a NHSCA National Championship.

Not only did Ryan make a history, but he did it in an impressive way, winning all seven matches during the three days of the tournament in Virginia Beach.

Jack also earned All-American honors for the third straight year, and because of his impressive performance, he was also named the Most Outstanding Wrestler in the 126-pound weight class. He finished the season at 47-0 by winning a 12-5 decision over Zach Redding of Eastport-South Manor (N.Y.) in the finals.

Long time Hatters wrestling coach Ricky Shook, who's seen a lot of accomplishments during his years with Danbury, told gametimect.com how impressed he was with Ryan Jacks performance:

It’s kind of crazy; it’s very hard to win that thing. I’ve brought all my good guys there and no one ever won. He barely gave up anything all weekend; he wrestled really well. I’ve been going for 30 years and never won it.

The amazing thing about Ryan Jack, who was the FCIAC Class LL, State Open and New England champion, is that he's only a junior, so he's got all of next year to try and set every record available for Hatters Wrestling.

After the match Ryan talked to gametimect.com about how he felt about his dominating performance:

It feels amazing, all these great wrestlers who came from Danbury; to be the first one feels good and I have some bragging rights now.
