It's a sad day here in the Hat City, as the Danbury Titans have announced that they will cease operations after two seasons in the Federal Hockey League.

In a statement that was released Wednesday morning (Aug. 2) team owner, Bruce Bennett, expressed his sentiments:

It is with a heavy heart that this decision had to be made. When I started the Titans franchise I wanted to set an example for everyone in our league to follow. Over the last two seasons we have earned the respect and admiration of those from around the hockey world. I felt like this could be a long-term venture with a lot of success. Despite the fact we never won a championship, I was extremely proud of my players and their commitment not only on the ice but also off. I know the Titans have had a major impact on our community that will be missed.

After thanking the players, the staff, the sponsors and especially the loyal fans, Mr. Bennett went on to cite that the primary reason for the Titans' fold is the cost of worker's compensation insurance here in the State of Connecticut.

I decided this was not financially feasible for an organization like mine. Last season's injury list was long. Because of this, I refuse to allow my staff and players on the ice without proper medical coverage.

Bruce Bennett will be joining the our sister station in the coming days to go into further detail regarding his decision to shut down team operations.

Personally, the Titans Organization is one that will be greatly missed. This past season, I had the privilege of watching many games from one of the best seats in the house, as I provided the soundtrack in the Danbury Ice Arena from the DJ Booth. The players and the lively Danbury fans -- especially section 103 -- provided a postive atmosphere that was electric throughout each and every game. The Danbury Titans will be missed.

What do you think will be next for the Danbury Ice Arena?
