Danbury Police say complaints are coming in from local businesses that they’re getting phone calls from people claiming to be from Eversource Electric. The caller threatens that they are going to shut off the power immediately if a payment is not made over the phone.

Authorities remind us that Eversource reps will never do this.

They won’t ask for an instant payment in person or over the phone. They will not require you to use prepaid debit cards like Green Dot, MoneyPak, Vanilla or Reloadit. Eversource will always give you written notice by mail if you’re getting disconnected for failure to pay. They will then advise you of actions you can take to keep your service on. If you get one of these call hang up. Be sure to call Eversourse yourself at 800-286-2000.

Those are some of the main things you can do to safeguard yourself from these scammers.
