When Stephen Shafer of Bethel, CT didn't return from a bike ride on June 19, 2017, his family's worst fears came to reality.

He was reported missing that night, and on Tuesday, June 20, we reported that Shafer was found dead in Farrington Woods in Danbury, CT.

Adding to the grief, the DailyVoice.com reports that Brandon's mother, Kristina Kuehn, passed away ten years ago.

There are three things that Stephen Shafer was known for -- his love of the outdoors, his love of the New York Mets, and especially, the love of his only child, Brandon.

This is where Sgt. Casazza of the Danbury Police Department stepped in. Befriending the boy during this difficult time, Casazza came to realize how much Brandon and his father loved the New York Mets. He got together with other members of the Department and organized a trip to Citi Field on August 5, 2017.

This is where a community can come together to truly make a difference in someone's life. Special thanks to the Danbury Police Department for showing the big hearts that wear those blue uniforms and for putting such a beautiful smile on Brandon Shafer's face and in his heart. This is surely a day he will never, ever forget.
