Danbury OTB Could Be ‘Two Steps’ Closer to Reality, Officials Explain
Back in June, we told you about Danbury's proposed off-track betting parlor and the controversy surrounding the possible opening inside Two Steps Downtown Grill. Today, we've got the latest update on the proposal. For now, it looks like it's another step closer to actually becoming a reality.
According to patch.com, the city of Danbury zoning commission has amended its regulations to allow for off-track betting (OTB) as a secondary use in restaurants on a case by case basis.
Joe Cavo, Danbury's Common Council President explained what this new ruling means:
Since the zoning hurdle has been overcome, OTB is allowed to set up a location in Danbury. As you know there are only a certain number of permits allowed in the state. With this latest ruling, someone now has to come forward to apply for an application. Once the application has been submitted and is complete it would go before the city council for approval, or disapproval.
The front runner right now to submit that application is Tom Devine owner of Two Steps Downtown Grill. Devine is hoping to open the off-track betting parlor on the second floor of his restaurant.
Cavo commented about this possibility:
I'm betting it's going to be Tom Devine, but right now we're just taking it one, or should I say two steps at a time and referring to the city attorney's before we have to take it to the common council for a final vote.
