Danbury, New Milford Score State Grants for Remediation of Blighted Properties

The new year will bring the possibility that 713 acres of blighted properties across Connecticut will be cleaned up. It's due to the release of $7.2 million dollars in state grants, and both Danbury and New Milford scored a piece of that sweet money.

Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont announced the release of $7.2 million in state grants on Monday, December 18 on ct.gov. According to Governor Lamont, the City of Danbury will receive a $200,000 grant to perform an assessment on the adjoining properties at 72-80 Maple Avenue and East Franklin Street in town. The vacant property was the former home to the warehouse operations of Amphenol. These state funds will be used to help determine the possible future use for the property.

And there is some exciting news for "The Best Town in the USA" New Milford to share also, they also received a $200,000 grant for the assessment of three properties in town. The buildings located at 6 Youngs Field Road, 20 Youngs Field Road, and 72 Housatonic Avenue (Currently occupied by New Milford's Department of Public Works), will be assessed to determine a remediation strategy that will allow for the relocation of New Milford's DPW, and future remediation and development of the properties as a whole.

New Milford's Mayor Pete Bass has said over the past year during interviews on the i95 morning show that the vision for a 'Riverwalk' with shops, restaurants, and recreation is a possibility for the future of the property.

Most of the $7.2 million released in this round of state grants is going to Ansonia, with a $3,800,000 grant released to dispose of a debris pile and remediation of an 8.56 acre property located at 21-165 Olsen Drive.
