Danbury Mom Accused of Abandoning Newborn Behind Store Pleads Not Guilty
The saga in this sad story of abandonment continues. As an adopted child who feels blessed everyday, I hope this baby boy winds up in as loving a home as I did.
We were shocked three months ago when a precious newborn was found in Danbury.
Then, after a two month investigation, the mother was found.
Here are the recent developments in the case:
In a story from newstimes.com, 22-year-old, Anny Castillo of Danbury, has entered a plea of not guilty to the charges leveled against her — abandonment of a child under the age of six years, risk of injury, and cruelty to persons.
The state of Connecticut is one of many that have the Safe Haven law, which lets new mothers drop off infants that are less than 30 days old at any hospital, no questions asked. According to the News Times article, Castillo claimed she was unaware of that option.
Thankfully, the baby is reported to be doing well, and my prayer is that he will eventually be in an amazing home, regardless of his start in life. Anny Castillo has been ordered to have no contact with the baby and she's due back in court in a couple weeks.
Here are the original 911 calls from when the abandoned infant was found:
